You are Splendid!

Reading in Jeremiah, I am struck by this verse in chapter 1, when God is charging Jeremiah with his mission.  The first “vision” Jeremiah is given is that of an almond tree.  MacArthur notes that the almond tree blooms earliest of all trees, so that there is significance there, however, what particularly strikes me this morning is the LORD’s statement that He is “watching over His Word to perform it.:

“The Word of the LORD came to me saying, ‘What do you see, Jeremiah?’

And I said, ‘I see an almond tree.’

Then the LORD said to me, ‘You have seen well,

For I am watching over my Word to perform it.’” vv. 11, 12

“I am watching over my Word to perform it.”  I just love that.  This is what is happening right now.  This is what has always been happening, but He makes a point of emphasizing it to Jeremiah.  He has just told Jeremiah that He is about to do some wild things and that the people of Israel (Judah, technically) will not be happy at all with Jeremiah and will come against him.  At this point the LORD hints at that.  BUT, he strongly says:

“Do not be afraid of them,

For I am with you to deliver you.” v. 8

I just love this.  This is the posture I see the LORD in at this point in time, especially as we see so many things happening with Israel at the center.  I feel myself in here as far as the LORD saying, “Do not be afraid whatever you see happening around you, because I am watching over My Word to perform it.”

Oh, LORD, yes, YOU are!  I am so proud of YOU. I am so glad to know You are watching over Your Word to perform it and that we are moving towards the day when all things will come to their rightful end in You.  You are so deserving of center stage, of every eye seeing you – all of your enemies and all of your devotees – all of us unable to deny Your glory and preeminence.  This is what IT is all about.  I love you.  You are absolutely splendid.
