God’s Perfect Track Record—Never Failed, Not Once

In the mornings when I first wake up, I like to lie there quietly and muse with God over His various wonders. This morning, the wonder that first popped into my mind was,
“You NEVER fail!”

Think about that! Who NEVER fails? Never, ever, ever? Goodness, I fail routinely as a simple matter of everyday life. But God? He never has failed, and He never will fail, and He has had a very long time to do that. Well, time doesn’t exist for God – He has no beginning or end – but let’s just say that He has had plenty of “time” to let something, somewhere along the line - slip.
BUT - never happened and not ever happenin’!
Doesn’t that just make you want to hug Him with every ounce of strength and love you have? I dare you to really think about that and try to worry about something at the same time. No, make that a double dare! 😉

A favorite, comforting Bible verse for many, including me, is:
“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
HIS “COMPASSIONS”
Hmm… We all know what the word "compassion" means, but let’s really think about it for a moment:
Webster-style definition of compassion

Compassion (noun): A deep awareness of another’s suffering accompanied by a heartfelt desire to relieve it; sympathetic mercy joined with active tenderness.
Now let’s look at the Hebrew word used here by the prophet Jeremiah in this passage to see if we can get a deeper perspective into what is actually being said here:
Hebrew word:
רַחֲמִים (rachamim)Often translated

compassions
mercies
tender mercies
Root word:

רֶחֶם (rechem) = womb
As a mother I can especially relate to this. The Hebrew imagery behind rachamim carries the idea of:
· womb-like tenderness
· motherly mercy
· deep, visceral, protective love
It conveys compassion not merely as kindness, but as deeply felt inward mercy flowing from the very core of one’s being. In this case, deeply flowing from the core of HIS being towards the core of MY being.
Wow! With King David, the psalmist, I just have to say:
“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” Psalm 139:6
The above passage in Lamentations tells us He is always FAITHFUL when it comes to extending His compassions towards us and, further and very importantly, that His faithfulness is not first towards us but to Himself!
“If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful: He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)
AND. THIS. WILL. NEVER. CHANGE... EVER.
AND… GOD. CANNOT. LIE... EVER.

That’s right! Not “God will not lie,” but “He cannot lie.”
“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” (Titus 1:2)
“God is not a man, that He should lie…” (Numbers 23:19)
“Hath he said, and shall He not do it?” (Numbers 23:19)
“It was impossible for God to lie…” Hebrews 6:18
Who doesn’t lie? I certainly have. I have to say that today I don’t lie. Well, hopefully I’m not lying when I say that 😬, but the conviction of the Holy Spirit really does keep me from doing that at this point in my life. But who hasn’t lied? Some of the people I’ve trusted most in my life have lied to me, and - if nothing else - lying sometimes seems the quickest way out of a sticky situation.
But Jesus had this very serious and sobering thing to say about lying and its source:

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44
AND...Because God Cannot Lie -

Every promise God has given us in His Word will never fail.
God's perfect track record: He is alone in this.
“There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken… all came to pass.” (Joshua 21:45)
“Not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake…” (Joshua 23:14)
“There hath not failed one word of all His good promise…” (1 Kings 8:56)
IF GOD NEVER FAILS, WHY DOES IT SOMETIMES SEEM HE HAS FAILED ME?

This is a loaded question, and it may make us squirm a bit to admit we’re even asking it or have asked it in the past. It’s an honest question, however.
How many times has it seemed your prayers went unanswered; that a door you were praying would open closed, or healing was delayed or didn’t come at all, pain went unrelieved, or you suffered a significant loss of some kind?
Two major answer categories come to mind.
1) Sometimes our will and God’s will are not the same. When I say this I mean to say, first, that sometimes we actually want things that are wrong – things that are sinful. We’re living from a shallow and self-centered perspective – the Bible calls this walking in the flesh rather than walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). AND... even as Christians, we can do this if we choose to.
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” (1 John 5:14)
God has never promised to fund rebellion, bless sin, endorse selfish ambition, or empower motives that stand in contrast to His holiness.
“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss…” (James 4:3)
If I ask God to prosper what is destructive, prideful, sinful, or outside His design, His refusal is not failure, but faithfulness. In fact, one of God’s greatest mercies is that He does not always give us what we wrongly want. (I say “always” because sometimes He does in order to use that event in our lives to teach us, correct us, and lead us on a better path in our lives as they continue here on the earth.)
2) The other major reason it may seem God fails us is that we do not understand His wisdom as reflected in His timing and how He answers our prayers and longings.
The Bible is full of examples of this very phenomenon.
Abraham

When age made the promise that he would become the “father of many nations” seem absurd:
“He staggered not at the promise of God…” (Romans 4:20)
Joseph
When betrayal by his brothers - in spite of God’s promises given to him in dreams- looked like destruction:
“Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good…” (Genesis 50:20)
Hannah

When the anguish of her infertility felt endless:
“And the LORD remembered her.”
(1 Samuel 1:19)
David
When he found himself hiding in caves from King Saul in fear of his life:
“The LORD… will deliver me…”
(1 Samuel 17:37)
Daniel
When obedience to God lead him into a lions’ den where death surely awaiting him:
“No manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.”
(Daniel 6:23)
Again and again, God’s people discovered the same truth: God never fails. Ever.
Jesus Christ: The Ultimate Proof

Even with all of Satan’s efforts to keep God’s promise of Redemption from happening, including:
· attempting to wipe out the Hebrew people before He could be born, time and time again throughout history as recorded in the Old Testament
· attempting to have Him killed as an infant
· attempting to get Him to sin through temptation in the wilderness
· diabolically fighting Him with everything he had in the Garden of Eden to keep Him from the cross
God in Jesus Christ never faltered – never mind failed – to accomplish the purpose for which He came!*
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen…” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37
“It is finished.” John 19:30

GOD AS REFUGE AND STEADFAST SECURITY

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
“…His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4
“…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5

“For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:5
This is my very favorite version of this beautiful blessing from the book of Deuteronomy, and it's all about the faithfulness of God to us and to our children and their children and their children... Enjoy!
The Blessing
The Lord bless you and keep you
Make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you
The Lord turn His face toward you
And give you peace
Amen, amen, amen
Amen, amen, amen
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children
In the morning, in the evening
In your coming, and your going
In your weeping, and rejoicing
He is for you, He is for you

Of course, the saying of a prayer is the reflection of a monumental and life-changing heart decision, but this is a good guide.

Just what I needed today …. I have been physically suffering for so long and wondering why God has not brought me healing… but I know He is with me and will show me why in His perfect timing. I just need help hoping.
I love The Celtic Blessing too. It moves somewhere deep inside me where God resides. I hope you are doing well, I think of you often as life moves on without Dale, a wonderful partner who left too soon in this life.
