THE POWER OF PRAISE AS WARFARE
“Let the high praises of God be in their throats
and a two-edged sword in their hands.”
— Psalm 149:6
Praise is not mood-based. Praise is not sentimental. Praise is not what we do after everything gets better.
Praise is warfare. In Scripture, praise pushes back darkness, breaks chains, routes enemies, and strengthens the soul. When Jehoshaphat was surrounded (2 Chronicles 20), the choir went out before the army — and God fought.
Why? Because praise is an act of defiance against everything that says God is small, distant, or defeated.
When you praise God:
you align with His sovereignty
you declare truth in the face of lies
you stand up in your spirit
you remind yourself who rules the universe
Praise is not emotional escape; it is spiritual engagement.
It is one of the most powerful weapons you have for daily private worship.
Ways to Incorporate More Praise Into Your Day
I like to sing to God, read the Scriptures — the Psalms are a wonderful place to start — play my piano or guitar, or put on music and dance around in joyful praise (when no one’s watching, of course!). There have been seasons when I’ve enjoyed working my way through the Lutheran Hymnal’s liturgy.
In short, God looks at the heart of the worshipper, not the style or the setting.
Some of my most worshipful times have been in the dead of night, in absolute silence, simply praising Him from my heart and in my mind. Worship doesn’t begin with performance — it begins with presence.
Don’t wait for a good day.
Praise creates the day.
Praise reorients the heart.
Praise strengthens the "feeble knees."
Praise invites the Presence that drives back fear.
So...
Raise your voice.
Lift your hands.
Speak His name.
Or do WHATEVER it is the Spirit prompts you to do from within.
You are not "singing into the air" — you are taking your place in the battle and, at the same time, fortifying your own spirit with joy, freedom, abundance, and overflowing love!

DIG DEEPER — The Power of Praise
1. Read These Passages
2 Chronicles 20:1–25 — praise sent ahead of the army
Acts 16:25–26 — praise at midnight breaks chains
Psalm 149 — praise as spiritual warfare
Psalm 22:3 — God enthrones Himself in the praises of His people
2. Note These Patterns
Praise precedes victory
Praise brings clarity
Praise breaks paralysis
Praise lifts the spirit above circumstances
Praise is not circumstantial — it is based in the truth of Who God is.

3. Ask Yourself
Do I understand my praise as weaponry or as mood?
What happens when I praise God before solutions come?
Where do I need to wield praise today — not softly, but boldly?
